18 marzo My photo album in South AmericaSome of you may know and some of you may not know, my camera, Canon 400D SLR body + Sigma 18-200, F3.5-6.3 len, was stolen on March 15th, my last day in Buenos Aires, together, I lost all my photos in South America. With deep sorrow, I hope it can find a kind new owner and lead a peaceful life in Argentina.
Trying to keep my days and stories in South America, I replicate my photo albums with words...
Photo 1: Street market in Rio de Janeiro
Aperture priority, vertically positioned. Focusing on the closest oranges, the photo extends to the end of the shelf with colorful fruits, some of which we even don't know the name. We had breakfast here on the second day in Rio, feeding ourselves with tons of unknown street food.
Photo 2: Brazil impression
Aperture priority, horizontally positioned. A girl with beautifully tanned skin wearing bikini stood on the left, looking at the sea, with a carnival style carriage as the background. This picture was taken while stolling along the Copacabana beach in Rio. Basically, bikini and carnival were my first impression for Brazil.
Photo 3: Smile in Santa Teresa
Aperture priority, ISO 400. Class was over, the Brazilian boy jumped onto the trolley running out of an old narrow street in Santa Teresa. The tender light from the sunset lit up the shining smile. This was one of the 10+ pictures I took for him, trying to catch the beautiful light and shadow on his face, while the trolley was still moving. The trolley, we called it time machine, within a 20 minutes ride, taking us from the skyscrapers outside into an old, pure and silent world of Santa Teresa.
Photo 4: Lavanya writing to her darling in Foz do Iguacu
Shutter priority with shutter speed 1/40. Lavanya leaning on the fence writing postcard to her husband, with the amazing Iguacu falls as the background. She wrote, I really hope you were also here to watch the falls. When we become old, let's travel around the world, I would do the planning and you do the financing.
Photo 5: Welcome home
Aperture priority, with the light adjusted +1 brighter. The sign, on which written "Hostel Natural, welcome home", occupied half of the photo, positioned upper left. Right and below, smaller, was the rosy clouds from the sunset. The hostel was in the middle of woods and grasses, purely nature, we ate sweet corns while bathed in breeze, watching sunset.
Photo 6: Tango, Soul of Argentina
Plaza Dorrego, San Telmo. The small plaza was surrounded by artists, Tango dancers and music. I almost sat on the ground for the whole 20 minutes, shooting around 50 photos for the Tango couple. Argentina, this is a country of Tango, with its soul soaked in Tango music.
Photo 7: Peru Metro station
Aperture priority, vertically positioned. Focusing on the sign of the metro station, I tried to take the photo from a weird angle, making its background, a European old building quite vague. This is a combination of old and new, historical and modern. The streets of Buenos Aires were named with names of countries in South America, like this, Peru.
Photo 8: We are the English menu
Shutter priority with shutter speed 1/15, ISO 400, light adjusted +1 brighter. 5 glasses of champagne positioned in the center, background was shelfs of various wines. This was a French restaurant, the menu was in French and Spanish. When we asked about the English menu, the two waiters jumped in front of us, smiling, waving to us with one hand, the other hand on each other's shoulder...We, are the English menu~~~ Imagine the movie Lion King, Simba's two best friends, singing Hakuna Matata~~
Photo 9: Portaits of Julien and me
Aperture priority, ISO 400. It was in a Cafe, we took photos of each other. Mine was focusing on the coffer in front of me, my face was vague, when I was writing postcards to friends. Julien's was focusing on herself, when she was drawing a sketch of me, my first sketch in my life. She was wearing a dark green jacket, and the background was the red flowers on the tree out of the window, which you can see everywhere in Buenos Aires.
After writing all these, now I know, all these photos are still there and would always be there. They can never be removed although they may be deleted from the camera. Because, the best scenery is on the road and the best memory is in the heart.
